Hanzi Hero stores the following information locally on your device using browser/device local storage:

Practice Sets: Custom character practice sets that you create within the app, including the Chinese characters you choose to practice
Game Progress: Your progress and results during practice sessions (stored temporarily during active sessions)

This data is stored exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to our servers or any third-party services.

1.2 Information We Do NOT Collect

We want to be transparent about what we do not collect:

No personal identification information (name, email, phone number, address)
No account information (the App does not require user accounts or registration)
No location data
No device identifiers (device ID, advertising ID, etc.)
No usage analytics or tracking data
No payment information (the App is free to use)
No biometric data

2. How We Use Your Information

The limited data stored locally on your device is used solely for:

Maintaining your custom practice sets so you can access them in future sessions
Providing a seamless learning experience within the App

We do not use your data for advertising, marketing, or any commercial purposes.

3. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party resources, which may have their own privacy policies:

HanziWriter Library: Loaded from CDN (cdn.jsdelivr.net) for Chinese character writing functionality. This library runs locally in your browser and does not transmit data.
Google Fonts: Loaded from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com for typography. Google may collect standard web log information. Please review Google's Privacy Policy.
Canvas Confetti Library: Loaded from CDN (cdn.jsdelivr.net) for celebration animations. This library runs locally and does not transmit data.
Tailwind CSS: Loaded from CDN (cdn.tailwindcss.com) for styling. This is a CSS framework and does not collect data.

Important: These third-party resources are loaded from Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) to provide functionality. They do not receive any personal information or data from your use of the App.

4. Data Storage and Security

All data collected by the App is stored locally on your device using standard browser/device local storage mechanisms. This means:

Your data never leaves your device
Your data is not backed up to cloud servers
If you uninstall the App or clear your browser data, your stored practice sets will be deleted

While we implement reasonable security measures, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. However, since all data remains on your device, you have full control over it.

5. Children's Privacy

Hanzi Hero is designed to be safe for users of all ages, including children. We are committed to protecting children's privacy:

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction)
We do not require registration or account creation
All data remains on the device and is not shared with third parties
Parents can review or delete their child's data by clearing the App's local storage

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have the following rights regarding your data:

Access: You can view your practice sets directly within the App
Deletion: You can delete individual practice sets within the App, or delete all data by clearing your browser/device local storage
Control: Since all data is stored locally, you have complete control over it

To delete all App data:

On Web: Clear your browser's local storage for the App's domain
On Android: Go to Settings → Apps → Hanzi Hero → Storage → Clear Data

7. Data Retention

Your practice sets are retained on your device until you:

Manually delete them within the App
Uninstall the App
Clear your browser/device local storage

We do not retain any copies of your data on our servers, as we do not collect or transmit your data.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:

Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this Privacy Policy
Posting the new Privacy Policy in the App or on our website (if applicable)

You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted.

9. International Users

If you are using the App from outside the jurisdiction where we operate, please note that:

All data remains on your local device
No data is transferred across international borders by our App
